Game On is 25 years old today
On the 11th of November 1997 Game On opened it's doors at 17 Church Street, Saffron Walden. We were busy still setting up the store and we didn't actually sell anything that day, we had to wait until the 12th when we had our first customer, whom we sold a Nintendo 64 Console, an extra controller and Mario Kart 64! It's been 25 years and we're still selling Nintendo consoles with extra controllers and Mario Kart 
The store was on two levels with the video games, a gaming table and our Dreamcast pod in the basement. By 2000 video games had really taken off and we needed more room for displaying stock.
In October 2000 we moved to larger premises in the High Street where PlayStation 2 was launched to a sell out success. Since then we've had a whole host of consoles launches, many with Midnight Openings. The last consoles launched were XBOX Series X/S and PlayStation 5, that happened during the November 2020 Lockdown, we could only allow customers to collect their new prepaid consoles from the door, we had a Socially Distanced queue outside the store for 3 1/2 hours.
Since we moved to the High Street we started adding more games and toys, first with Board Games and more Trading Cards but we wanted to stock more mainstream brands so in 2010 we joined the Toymaster Group. This allowed us access to toy manufacturers such as LEGO, Playmobil, Hasbro, Mattel, Hornby, Character and many more.
We have continued to add new ranges to our store with toys becoming more important as video games went more online. In August 2019 we rebranded to Game On Toymaster and in April 2020 relaunched our website www.gameon-toymaster.com incorporating Click & Collect and deliveries for Lockdown customers.
We have seen many great customers over the years, we now are serving the children of customers who came in when they were children. Thank you for your custom over the past 25 years, here's hoping we'll still be serving Saffron Walden and the community in another 25 years, most probably selling Nintendo consoles with Mario Kart!
